The Ministry of Education of St Kitts and Nevis hosted a ‘Back-to-School’ ceremony on Monday morning, August 26th, 2024 to mark the beginning of the New Academic Year 2024-25 in the country.
This significant ‘Back-to-School’ Ceremony took place at the St Kitts Mariott Resort, opening the ceremony with a regard and acknowledgement to all the key delegation and teachers that attended the event followed by the national anthem.
The teachers were joined by Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister responsible for the Education, Dr Geoffrey Hanley; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Lisa Pistana; Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China to St Kitts and Nevis, Michal Lin and other ministry officials.
Following the acknowledgement, everyone enjoyed and worshipped God through prayer songs. The ceremony also featured a musical rendition by a teacher named Jerone Hunkins.
The Senior Education Officer reflected on 2023-2030 Ministry of Education Theme, ‘Transforming Education Through Self Renewal, Holistic Partnerships & Digital Solutions.’ She also congratulated new teachers on their selection in the teaching fraternity and presented each of them with a token.
She noted that their goal is to ensure that no child is left behind and that they strive for education that is inclusive for all students.
Minister of Education, Dr Geoffrey Hanley also gave valuable remarks at the ceremony. He firstly extended thanks to Ambassador Michael Lin for his presence and for electric school buses that will St Kitts during this school year.
He extended special gratitude to the director and staff of the project and building management unit for their hard work and the retirees that have contributed to the education ministry in any way.
Minister Hanley also mentioned that the ministry will continue their drive to improve their curriculum by working collaboratively with the regional partners. He also mentioned about providing the children with laptops fostering their development and learning.
In addition to this, Ministry of Education has partnered with St Kitts and Nevis Anguilla National Bank to create a teacher’s supply debit card which will be loaded with 300 EC annually.
The event also saw a dance performance by the students of Washington Primary School and rewards to some teachers and facilitators.
The ceremony concluded with a group picture and an appreciation to the teachers, teacher assistants and staff for their roles in educating and shaping the future of the nation’s children.
