St Kitts and Nevis: The Government of St Kitts and Nevis has shared that the ASPIRE Programme has already seeded $1000 to the new savings account of 367 young participants.
This initiative has been launched by the government of St Kitts and Nevis for children aged between 5 to 18 to provide them with financial tools and knowledge needed to secure a brighter future. The programme has so far received 1,700 applications since its launch in September 2024.
The ‘ASPIRE’ programme is fuelled by the government and now “The Cable” will also assist the programme from today, November 25, 2024 to Friday, November 29, 2024.
Significantly, the contribution will be divided into two parts, half of which will be part the savings account in St Kitts and Nevis Anguilla Bank and the other EC$500 will be used as investment in local, government-owned companies.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, during his Roundtable Conference held recently, emphasised on the programme’s potential to disrupt the cycle of poverty and promote economic independence. He noted that this program is a game changer and will empower the youth to build a financial foundation early.
“This is not just an investment in individuals but in the future of our nation,” said PM Drew.
It is to be noted that the ASPIRE is open to all eligible children, regardless of their social and economic background, reflecting the commitment of government to inclusivity.
PM Drew also highlighted the importance of education in ensuring the programme’s success and said that the government is committed to providing the resources and education necessary to support the youth in their financial journeys.
Notably, in addition to the ASPIRE programme, initiative such as the increased minimum wages, pensions for Government Auxiliary Employees (GAEs) and more proves the focus of the administration on empowering the individuals and fostering economic resilience.
