Basseterre, St Kitts: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew officially announced the launch of the ASPIRE (Achieving Success through Personal Investment, Resources, and Education) Programme at the National Youth Rally.
This groundbreaking programme is a new financial education, savings, and investment programme for the youth of the nation to build successful financial futures.
Significantly, Prime Minister Drew shared glimpses of the launch and the rally on his official social media and noted that he officially launched the groundbreaking ASPIRE Programme at the Warner Park in front of hundreds of young people during a large independence youth rally.
ASPIRE is the first of its kind initiative that is exclusive for the region, is aimed at eliminating poverty and inequality while providing the children of St Kitts and Nevis with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities that they need to thrive.
PM Drew also laid down the information on the eligibility criteria of the ASPIRE Programme.
Notably, under ASPIRE, every citizen of St Kitts and Nevis aged between 5 to 12 including nationals and citizens y descent, they all will receive a contribution of EC$ 1000 from the government.
This Government contribution will be divided into two parts: EC $500 that is to be held in a savings account at St Kitts and Nevis Anguilla Bank and the other EC $500 will be invested in the shares of local, government-owned entities. It will also be coupled with financial education to be delivered in schools.
Highlighting the significance of the programme at the launch, PM Terrance Drew expressed his delight and enthusiasm mentioning that ASPIRE is not just a programme, it is also a promise to the youth for investing in their future, in their dreams, and in their potential to lead St Kitts and Nevis.
Several ministers of the nation have also shared the launch of this programme and expressed how their administration continues to promote youth development through these initiatives.
Additionally, the launch of ASPIRE follows PM Drew’s commitment in the December 2023 Budget announcement.
“This is your opportunity to build wealth, gain financial knowledge, and contribute to the prosperity of our nation. Together, we will ASPIRE to greatness,” PM Terrance Drew said concluding his address.
