Gyasi Richardson, a Ghanaian seaman, has been killed in Trinidad and Tobago after he was shot dead by his colleague while he was on duty.

According to a report, the seaman, Richardson was shot by his colleague, Takeem Alexander, on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, and the shot prooved out to be fatal.

Takeem shot Gyasi while onboard Coast Guard Vessel CG25 TTS Spayside which had been docked at the Chacachacare Island.

Richardson died at St. James Medical Hospital after he struggled for his life after receiving the gunshot from his colleague.

Reasons behind the gunshot had not been revealed immediately, however, on Tuesday, Acting Supt Corbett, Acting Insp Grant, Acting ASP Burnett and Legal Officer Sgt Mongroo met the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC, and received several instructions which led to Alexander of St James being charged with manslaughter by Acting ASP Burnett.

The charge of manslaughter on Alexander was laid at the Besson Street Police Station. Alexander then appeared before Magistrate Adia Mohammed through video conferencing, and he was not called upon to plea as the charge had already been laid indictably.

The accused was granted a bail of $400,000 with a surety, and the case was adjourned to May 13.

A TTPS press release has also stated that the investigations were being conducted by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations and were spearheaded by Snr Supt Chandool and were being supervised by Supt Martin, Supt Corbett.
