Cuban health collaborators report today 5,081 lives saved in Jamaica and support local efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 from the first line of response.
According to what the Cuban embassy in Kingston told Prensa Latina, the medical group provided health assistance in the last month to 45,115 citizens, to raise to 270,775 the number of patients treated during last April and August.
At the end of August, Cuban health professionals carried out a total of 53,329 nursing procedures and 200 surgeries throughout the hospitals of the four regions and the 14 parishes in Jamaica.
During September working days is recorded the highest number of lives saved in the last six months with 945, after reporting in April 716, May 812, June 823, July 870 and August 915.
During the spread of the COVID-19 in Jamaica, the 413 Cuban internationalists keep vigilant in the fulfilment of the health protocols to avoid contagion and continue providing care to the population, the diplomatic mission said.
Cuba’s medical assistance to Jamaica is supported by the Peace Council, the Patriotic Movement and the Friendship Association, who repeatedly condemned the US blockade and advocated for the Nobel Peace Prize for the Henry Reeve contingent.
According to the Health and Welfare Ministry, Jamaica now has 7,191 positive cases, of which 2,700 have recovered, 4,268 are still ill, and 126 people have died.
