The Coca-Cola Foundation, made a donation to the Saint Lucia Red Cross on July 28, as part of the Coca-Cola foundation’s mission to help and support governments, economies and communities across the Caribbean to fight COVID-19.
The donation was made in collaboration with Du Boulay’s Bottling Company Limited and Windward and Leeward Brewery Limited.
The donation made to the St Lucia Red Cross included gloves, N95 masks, bleach and disinfectants, and all of them would be distributed to the institutions such as the country’s Ministry of Health.
The Red Cross has also received some funds which would go towards preparing food for 320 farmers for one month.
According to Thibault Mesqui, the Managing Director of WLBL DBC, the work of the Red Cross should not go unnoticed.
The Managing Director said that the donations would go towards buying and distributing essential protective kits to front line workers, institutions and food packages to the vulnerable families.
According to Hubert Pierre, the President of the Saint Lucia Red Cross, the donation is very important to help the people of Saint Lucia in combating the virus.
Pierre said that the donation is of extreme importance because they really do not know the future and that they hear escalation everywhere.
He added that so, all the defences and measures which they have here such as masks, gloves etc, they are there for the purpose of enabling St Lucians to stay safe.
He concluded his statement by saying that he got a rude awakening, he forgot his mask, he stepped into a shop they told him that it would cost $7.50 for one and he just laughed because he had given away thousands of masks already for nothing and these type of things that make him wonder that how many Saint Lucians could buy a mask for $7.50 when things are already so hard.
