The government of St Kitts and Nevis has added another day to the VAT Discount days for before the new school session begins. The new session for will start on September 1 after a term break for the year. The officials had designated August 15 and August 16 as the VAT days for the back-to-school season.
However, shopping was severely impacted due to the weather triggered by the hurricane Erin, which has been passing close to the island nation. The hurricane triggered heavy rains which made back to school shopping extremely difficult.
Many families were not able to go out and shop for the children on August 16 and take advantage of the discounted days. The officials have shared that this was unfair to the parents as they had been promised two days of relief.
As such, to compensate for the loss of a single day, August 23 was announced as another VAT Discount Day. The aim of the additional day of VAT relief is to make sure that all the people of ST Kitts and Nevis can take advantage of the discounted days..
The government has shared that they are committed to providing economic relief to the people of St Kitts and Nevis. They have shared that the government will continue to support the people through such initiatives.
The authorities have however clarified that the sale of vehicles will not be included in the VAT relief days. The officials have shared that the members of the country can buy school supplies, school bags, stationary and more easily during the VAT free days initiative.
Furthermore, the administration has also issued caution to the people of the island as they navigate the 2025 Trans-Atlantic Hurricane Season, The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew noted that the safety and security of the people is that of utmost importance.
He highlighted that the members of the community have to remain cautious and protect their loved ones.
