Sharing details on the recent discussion between the Cabinet and the Chief Medical Officer in Antigua and Barbuda, the decision of reduction in curfew hours have been taken.
Cabinet has determined that the hourly reduction will start from Thursday 15 April 2021, starting daily at 23:00 to 05:00. Gymnasiums will remain closed, pending a submission by a joint committee of the enterprises; they need to point out the steps the gyms are willing to take to prevent infection when it gets green light. Churches, funerals and weddings are 25 people; however, a meeting with church leaders is planned, and extensive conditions will be discussed next Wednesday when the Cabinet meets.
The CMO noted that there was a 30% decrease in infections, which caused Antigua and Barbuda to move to an average of 3 infections daily. The CMO warned that a single super-distributor event could bring Antigua and Barbuda to a high infection rate.
More people need to be vaccinated to bring out herd immunity, the CMO said. If the number of people who become ill and who need hospitalization is abnormally high again, the restrictions that now apply must be reinstated.
– The second phase of vaccination, which started on Tuesday 13 April, was moderate; more residents and citizens need to be vaccinated to make the state safer for everyone, including visitors. 10,000 AstraZeneca vaccines are available immediately. The Russian vaccine has not yet been approved for use (by the Pharmaceutical Council of Antigua and Barbuda); it has been approved for import.
