World: In addition to the fact that masks are required for all forms of public transportation, international travelers had to have a negative Covid-19 test to enter or return to the US and have their own quarantine on arrival in the USA.
The CDC had warned the travel industry weeks before about the negative test required for entry into the US, which went into effect on January 26. Still, the wording of the quarantine ruling remained a bit unclear and vague.
“Travelers wishing to enter the United States from a foreign country must adhere to other applicable CDC guidelines regarding international travel, including recommended periods of self-quarantine or isolation after entering the United States,” the order reads.
Current CDC guidelines recommend seven days of self-quarantine after international travel with a Covid test three to five days in quarantine. If a traveler is unable to obtain a test, the CDC recommends a ten-day self-guarantee period.
Biden’s government has called for recommendations on how government officials can implement the policy.
The American Travel Association calls the requirement for quarantine for international travelers “difficult to enforce – and unnecessary in light of the required tests and the many other protections that currently exist.”
Discussion of the quarantine decision was discussed during a Zoom webinar hosted by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association on January 26, which was dedicated to understanding and adapting travel rules implemented by the US, UK and Canada.
Since that webinar, Canada has drastically tightened its travel rules, requiring travelers to be quarantined at a hotel. However, the government is somewhat punitive for the Caribbean Islands, as Canada has also suspended air travel to the islands for the next three months.
Peter Cerda, regional vice president of the United States for IATA, pointed out that the quarantine “is recommended by the US and is not a mandate.” The CDC is investigating. There are so many different procedures in place. Some states require a quarantine period. for returning travelers, others do not. ‘
Cerda does not believe a quarantine is a right solution. “Testing and vaccines will do that.”
“The tourism industry became strong in 2020, although it started to recover by the end of the year, now the medical industry is overwhelmed at home and abroad, and the Covid variants have been added,” he said.
“Add quarantine to travelers as soon as they arrive in the US, and it can dampen the desire to travel,” he said.
