The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs is hosting a Restorative Justice and Criminal Mediation Training programme in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The workshop is a 10 day programme and the workshop which officially began on Monday 8, June 2026 at the Koi Resort. St. Kitts and Nevis Attorney General, Garth Wilkin also attended the opening day of the workshop and shared the glimpse of the event on his official social media page.
The objective of the programme is to inform and teach the participants about how to handle things if they come into conflict within the justice system, they were given sources of knowledge, tools and practical skills.
Officials believe that through the programme, the administration wants to help in promoting accountability, dialogue, constructive engagement, and rehabilitation to both the affected parties by crime and conflict. The workshop is being hosted by a Londan-Based organisation, Society of Mediators. In addition to the workshop, an intensive four day training is also scheduled to take place from 8 to 11 June 2026.
Officials shared that throughout the session participants will gain deeper insight on measures taken while handling the conflict including restorative justice principles and criminal mediation techniques. In the session professionals also encourage individuals to heal and take responsibility.
According to reports the Restorative Justice and Criminal Mediation Training programme reflects the St. Kitts and Nevis government’s continued efforts of strengthening and enhancing the island’s criminal justice system. Officials even stated that through this training the government is working on building a more people centric and responsive justice system in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Additionally, the participants in the ten day programme will experience a change in how to manage conflict situations within the justice system and there will be professional development in their thinking ability. Professionals shared that the result of the programme will help in creating a more modern and balanced and effective criminal justice framework nationally.
