St Kitts and Nevis played host to the Special Olympics Leadership Academy being held in the country. This is the first time that the prestigious event is being hosted in the country as well as the whole region.
The sports stakeholders, especially the people associated with the Olympics in the country were delighted with this development. This was a historic event for the nation as St Kitts is the first nation in the Caribbean to be chosen as a host for this event.
The Special Olympics Leadership Academy was hosted over the course of three days. The National Director for Special Olympics St Kitts and Nevis, Ivor Blake spoke on the importance of the event for the people of the island nation and the wider region.
He called the meeting of the Special Olympics Leadership Academy a powerful gathering of minds, hearts, and leaders dedicated to the mission of inclusion. Blake further added that over the course of three days, they welcomed leaders from across the region.
These leaders were given the platform to hone their skills in the field. The leaders had the opportunity to share their visions on the matter. They proved once again that leadership knows no bounds.
He said highlights of the Academy made history in the country and the region as they brought the global standard of leadership training to the Caribbean. This initiative will help in improving Regional Unity, strengthening the bonds between the Caribbean programs.
The National Director for Special Olympics St Kitts and Nevis expressed pride on seeing the Caribbean regional leaders take the lead in workshops on advocacy, governance, and community impact.
Blake also took the time to extend his thanks to the local team of volunteers from Special Olympics St. Kitts and Nevis. Next he thanked the incredible facilitators, and every participant who traveled to be part of the academy.
He also thanked the Minister of Youth Employment, Ageing and Disabilities Isalean Phillip, Minister of Youth Employment, Ageing and Disabilities. She was present for the opening of the session with her keynote address.
