The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force have shared that they remain concerned about the use of private vehicles for paid transportation services. The authorities have shared that persons have advertised and offered paid transportation services to the public under descriptions such as “Uber” and other lift services.

However, the vehicles that they are using for these services are registered for private use (P, PA, PB, PC).

The use of private vehicles to provide transport services to the people without getting a proper license for the same is discouraged. The statement from the police has confirmed that advertising a transport service on social media or accepting bookings through a messaging platform does not establish that the service is licensed or appropriately insured.

The authorities have urged the people who are offering these services to make sure that they do not engage in transporting passengers for payment unless they have obtained the necessary authorization, vehicle registration, and insurance coverage for that purpose.

The Police has asserted that private use vehicle registration and ordinary private motor insurance does not serve as any kind of authorization or adequate coverage for carrying paying passengers. Anyone intending to provide such services has to first obtain the appropriate authorizations,” the police statement said.

The Police officers through their statement to the public have strongly advised against using unverified or unauthorized paid transport services.

“In the event of a collision, the absence of appropriate insurance may create serious difficulties in securing compensation for injury, loss, or damage. Passengers should use properly licensed public transport providers and satisfy themselves that the vehicle and driver are authorized to provide the service,” said the statement.

The police officers also ask the vehicle owners, drivers, and passengers to act responsibly and place safety first.

“Your safety matters. Choose licensed and appropriately insured transportation,” the police advised.
