The first national hero of St Kitts and Nevis, Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw will feature on the $50 note as a part of the new currency approved by the ECCB Monetary Council. The Prime Minister of the federation has announced that this is a historic development for the island.
Dr Drew was proud to say that the new development will honor Robert L Bradshaw along with other leaders across the region who have worked on the development of the region.
Robert L Bradshaw served as the first Premier of St Kitts and Nevis and played an invaluable part in the development of the country.
Dr Drew, who attended the ECCB Monetary Council meeting in Dominica shared that he was happy with the decision of the council. According to the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, this was a very proud and crucial moment in the history of the region.
The people of the island have also expressed their excitement on the development and expressed their pride on the fact that one of the most respected figures in the history of the island has been honored on the regional stage this way. The general public across the island as well as the region has celebrated this new development for the currency of the eastern caribbean region.
The currency notes of the Eastern Caribbean Dollars featured the image of Queen Elizabeth II, who acted as the sovereign of much of the Eastern Caribbean region. After the death of the sovereign, the Eastern Caribbean region decided that they will feature different images on the Currency notes.
This development comes as fulfillment of the commitment which was made back in the year 2022 after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The new EC Dollars Currency Notes feature the images of the following respected figures from each of the Eastern Caribbean nations:
- The $100 banknote features Nobel laureate in economic sciences, William Arthur Lewis, and John George Melvin Compton.
- The $50 banknote features former Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (1989–2015), K. Dwight Venner, and Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw, first Premier of St Kitts and Nevis
- The $20 banknote features The Sir Vere Cornwall Bird Sr and Mary Eugenia Charles.
- The $10 banknote features William Henry Bramble and Ronald Webster.
- The $5 banknote features Robert Milton Cato and Sir Kirani James.
