The refurbishment of the Basketball City at Victoria Road has been progressing at a favorable speed. The Minister of Creative Economy and Sports et al, toured the site where the refurbishment is going on.
According to the official updates on the progress of the refurbishment, the demolition of the foundation for the basketball court has been completed. The facility will also have a bigger foundation to meet international standards.
The aim of the Ministry of Sports is to make sure that the members of the community will be able to access world class facilities in the region. The Miistry of Sports has been working on this development for the last several months.
The work has been completed on the demolition of an older building at the Western end. They have also worked on installing a new drainage system for the court and the facility.
The seating support structure is being upgraded and new bleachers are being installed.
Further, the existing lighting structures, which obstructed the view of the spectators have been removed. The new lights have also been installed in the place of the old ones.
The renovation has been done for the bathrooms and dressing rooms, expanding the cafeteria section.
Minister Samal Duggins confirmed that the work has been going at a satisfactory speed. The Minister, during his tour of the refurbishment site was accompanied by the executives from the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Basketball Association (SKNABA).
The Minister of Creative Economy claimed that Basketball has been a very popular and favorite sport of youngsters in St Kitts and Nevis. Some of the youngsters have even pursued their education with the help of basketball scholarships.
This is why, the renovation of the Basketball city is a major priority for the leadership of the department of Sports. The Ministry wants to enhance the number of students who have been pursuing education on basketball scholarship.
The renovation of the basketball city will help in aligning the venue to international standards, giving better exposure and opportunity to youngsters. Minister Duggins said he was “honoured” to be in a position to significantly renovate Basketball City
