PM Terrance Drew Pays Tribute to Former Suriname President Chandrikapersad Santokhi

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew paid his tribute to the former president of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi. Dr Drew was accompanied by members of the Caribbean Community. 

The trip to Suriname was part of the Prime Minister’s duties as the incumbent chairperson of the Caribbean Community. He reached Suriname with a delegation of CARICOM heads of states on Tuesday, April 7 and attended the funeral ceremony.

He delivered a heartfelt tribute to former statesman who has been working with the international community. During his tribute Dr Drew talked about the transformative leadership the departed former President of the country. 

Dr Drew added that the President’s tenure has had an enduring impact on the Caribbean region. The Caribbean leaders, who were also in attendance, also extended their tributes to the highly respected statesman.

Meanwhile, Dr Drew also shared brief remarks at the funeral ceremony of  Chandrikapersad Santokhi. In his words, PM Terrance Drew reflected on the way that President Santokhi has worked in strengthening regional cooperation within the region.

The president had worked diligently to develop the Caribbean wide priorities such as youth development, climate action, and private sector growth. He was also a great champion for the cause of Caribbean Unity and worked in that direction diligently.

The Minister concluded his remarks by extending condolences on the death of the statesman to his friends and family members. He said the words of condolences on behalf of the government and people of St Kitts and Nevis and the wider Caribbean Region.

He also had the opportunity to meet with the family and friends of the President during the funeral ceremony

He said that the legacy of President Santokhi will continue to inspire generations upon generations across the region. 

The people of St Kitts and nevis have also extended their condolences to the grieving family of the President of Surname and hoped that President Santokhi’s soul rests in peace.
