A brand new 500,000 gallon glass fused steel tank is being constructed in Cayon to provide more relief to the people of the community. Cayon Community has faced issues with their water supply and faced shortages for years, spanning over a decade. The Minister of Public Utilities has shared that he visited the construction site of the steel tank in Cayon on Thursday.
He also promised that the programme is part of the leadership of St Kitts and Nevis’s mandate to improve water security and delivery. The nation has been seeing significant work in this area with the recent commissioning of the Basseterre Desalination Plant.
The construction of the glass infused water tank is part of the next phase of the administration’s water infrastructure expansion for Cayon and the surrounding community.
The people of Cayon have been struggling with water crisis for years and the work that has been done to address the situation includes the drilling of the Underground well. The drilling of the underground well was started in 2023 and finished nearly one year later in 2024.
The Minister of Public Utilities, Konris Maynard has shared a short update on the ongoing work through his social media.
He has shared that St. Kitts Water Services Department is handling this construction project as a Capital Project. The management of the project is being overseen by the Public Works Department St. Kitts.
Further, the Minister of Public Utilities has confirmed that the construction being done by Pelican Construction & Development Company Ltd. Furthermore, the tank will be supplied with water from the recently commissioned 400,000 gallon per day well in Cayon.
The Minister was proud to share that after several decades of water uncertainty, Cayon and the surrounding communities are now fully marching towards resilient water supply.
