The Cayon Well has finally been commissioned for the benefit of the people of the Cayon Community. The piece of infrastructure is expected to relieve the water crisis that the community is facing for several years.
The commissioning of the well had been a long-anticipated event that the people were looking forward to for months. The drilling and construction work for the well had started in June 2023. The government of St Kitts and Nevis had contracted the BEAD LLC for the fulfilment of the project.
In less than a year, the government and BEAD LLC have delivered a functional Cayon well that the community can use for their daily needs. The speed and efficiency of the administration in completing the Cayon Well has ensured that the people have reason to celebrate.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, who is also the Parliamentary representative of the community is delighted by the development. At the beginning of the Project almost 11 months ago, PM Drew had highlighted that he was aware of the community’s struggles when it came to water scarcity.
He had pledged to work on alleviating the problems and giving the community uninterrupted access to clean drinking water
He shared that the development is being welcomed by all the member of the community. The commissioning of the well was done on Friday with several members of the Drew led administration in attendance.
Minister Konris Maynard, who is the Minister of Public Works and Public Utilities was present at the site of the commissioning alongside the people from the water department. The other attendants included:
- Deputy Prime Minister, Minster of Education et al, Geoffrey Hanley
- Minister of Agriculture, Sports, Creative Economy et al, Samal Duggins
- Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation et al, Marsha Henderson.
- Junior Minister of Gender Affairs, Isalean Phillip
The ambassadors of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party and the members of the Cayon Community were also present at the commissioning.
The aim of the project is to ensure that the people of the surrounding communities can also benefit from the Cayon Well. The administration sought to ensure that the water being supplied through the well is safe for consumption.
Accordingly, the water from the Cayon Well was subjected to a variety of safety tests before the water was made available for public consumption. The government representatives present at the commissioning of the well interacted with the community. They also took turns drinking water from the well.
This gesture of the community, alongside their government representatives reinforced the belief on the safety of the water source. People of St Kitts and Nevis appreciated the Prime Minister for keeping the promise of delivering the well.
