Nevis Cricket Academy Officially Launched as NIA Expands Investment in Youth Cricket

Nevis Cricket Academy was officially launched on May 27, 2026 bringing about a significant leap in the growth of Cricket as a sport on the island. During the launch event, Minister of Sports NIA, took the initiative to distribute cricket equipment to primary schools across the island. 

The sports stakeholders of the island believe that this is a massive step from the administration of Nevis. The launch falls in line with the commitment of the NIA to nurture the talent of the Nevisian youngsters. 

The sports academy will also help the youngsters of the island nation turn out to be well rounded people with impeccable character. 

The Nevis Cricket Academy will help Nevis bring to light outstanding cricketers capable of competing at the highest levels of the sport. At the same time, they will also dedicate themselves to the growth and development of the youngsters. 

The authorities involved with the Nevis Cricket Academy asserted that they want to shape individuals of strong character, discipline, leadership, and resilience.

The academy believes that the traits that a youngster can develop within the cricket field can serve as the foundations for good lives. The academy will provide coaching, academic support, personal development and community support to the youngsters who enroll. 

Director of Sports, Aljay Newton, also present at the launch event talked about the Academy’s structure, goals, and operational framework at the launch ceremony. He also spoke about the Department of Sports approach to player development, and the mandate of the coaching staff.

The Minister said that the Academy’ will work in accordance with the sporting vision and mission of the Nevis Island Administration.

Troy Liburd, Minister with responsibility for Education, Youth & Sports in the NIA also expressed his delight at the launch of the Academy and expressed his support to the vision of the Academy. delivered an endorsement of the Academy’s vision and officially declared the Nevis Cricket Academy open. Minister Liburd reiterated that investment in young people through sport is one of the most powerful tools available for nation building.

Minister Liburd also distributed cricket equipment to primary schools across Nevis on the day of the launch of the Cricket Academy. The donation will ensure that the schools have the tools necessary to introduce and sustain cricket activity as extra curricular activities. 

They will remove barriers to participation, and lay out the groundwork for the Academy’s recruitment pipeline. All schools will receive equipment including gear bags, bats, helmets, batting & keeping gloves, batting & keeping pads, and abdomen guards for the students to be able to play cricket properly
