Isalean Phillip, Senator of the National Assembly, was officially sworn in as the Junior Minister in the Ministry of Social Development, Youth Empowerment, Gender Affairs, Aging and Disabilities in the Cabinet of St Kitts and Nevis during a ceremony hosted at the Government House on Monday, August 29, 2022.
Minister Isalean Phillip took the Oath of Office, Allegiance and Secrecy by Patrick Thompson in front of the Governor-General. Sir S. W. Tapley Seaton and several Cabinet Ministers, including Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew; Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley; Dr Denzil Douglas; Konris Maynard; Attorney-General, Senator Garth Wilkin; Cabinet Secretary, Dr Marcus Natta and other special guests.
Senator Isalean Phillip said she was ready to serve in her new capacity as Junior Minister and thanked all attendants for their massive support.
She thanked everyone for the overwhelming support and encouragement that they had provided her with since the announcement of my appointment as Senator.
Minister Isalean Phillip stated that she is honoured to take on this role as the Junior Minister with responsibilities for Youth Empowerment and Social Development, Gender Affairs, Aging and Disabilities.
She also added that she doesn’t take this appointment lightly and aspires to do her best to bring a youthful, gendered perspective to Cabinet decision-making and advance the work and effectiveness of the ministries and departments she works with”.
In 2013, Philip was named OAS Scholar and received a scholarship to complete her undergraduate degree. In the year 2016, she graduated summa cum laude from Saint Mary’s University with a B.A. Honours Degree in Political Science and International Development Studies. She minored in French.
Later on, Isalean enrolled in a Master of Arts programme and completed her research in Women & Gender Studies and Policy Development and Implementation. The thesis of her research on the effectiveness of employment equity policies in Canadian Universities was published and awarded the Governor General’s Gold Medal for Academic Research Excellence in Canada in 2018-19.
Isalean Phillip is going to serve as the Junior Minister in the ministries under the Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Dr Geoffrey Hanley.
