Minister of Tourism Marsha Handerson hosted a familiarization meeting with the taxi and tour operators of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis.
The taxi and tour operators with a direct stake in the Tourism Industry of the island country were invited to the meeting to share their views on how the tourism industry of St Kitts and Nevis can prosper.
The minister took the opportunity to interact directly with the people directly involved in the trades of the tourism industry and urged them to work together and hand-in-hand with one another.
She began her address by thanking the meeting attendees and applauding the people associated with the tourist industry for their resilience over the last two years when the world was caught in the clutches of Covid-19.
She then spoke of the future, insisting that “innovation is the key to refreshing our tourism products.” The newly appointed minister of tourism stated that we must be ready and willing to identify new products and rebrand and repackage existing ones to make them even more appealing.
Tourism is one of the most crucial selling points of the economy of St Kitts and Nevis. Thus, the Minister of Tourism insisted that the people must keep themselves ready to compete with the international standards.
She assured the attendees of the meeting that this journey was not just their own, ensuring them that their new (St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party) government would provide them with all the support and efforts they would require.
Handerson urged the industry workers to maintain their professionalism and (wherever possible) improve their service standards to meet international servicing standards.
Minister Handerson reiterated that the government would provide all the support that the industry workers need, stating, “We must seize the opportunity to cement our position as a premier destination, and it will require efforts from all of us. We must ensure that St.Kitts emerges as the number one destination.”
