A group of eleven (11) students from St. Kitts and Nevis will travel to the Republic of China (Taiwan) to advance their educational studies as early as next week.
These eleven students were the recipients of the 2022 Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) scholarships. The certificates of the scholarship were presented to the students during a ceremony held at the Palms Court Gardens on Thursday, August 18, 2022.
Michael Lin, who is the resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, was joined at the ceremony by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr Geoffrey Hanley; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr William Vincent Hodge; Chief Education Officer, Francil Morris, and other guests.
Ambassador Lin praised the strong relationship between St. Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The Ambassador further noted, “The Taiwan scholarship programme is one of the best examples of continued cooperation between the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Government of Taiwan in human resource development. I firmly believe that the students will dedicate themselves to their studies in Taiwan and return to their homeland with the knowledge and skills they learnt to contribute to the development of your great country.”
Seven students of the eleven recipients received the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) scholarship awards, while the other four received the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) scholarships.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, who was also in attendance at the event, congratulated the scholarship recipients and hoped they would represent their country well overseas.
Earlier, the minister of foreign affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas, held a virtual meeting with his counterpart in the Republic of China (Taiwan). The two discussed several issues of great importance, including training, scholarships, and deepening cooperation in agriculture, hospitality and tourism.
