On Thursday, August 13, 2020, The Miscellaneous Amendments (Financial Action Task Force) Bill, 2020, was successfully passed in the Honourable House.
The Bill provides various amendments for facilitating the comprehensive implementation of measures to boost the national security, to foster greater coherence within the financial services sector and strengthen investigative techniques on keeping with the needs of the Financial Action Task Force
Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, said that the Bill is of very important, not just to the federation of St Kitts and Nevis, but to the whole region.
He added that the Bill might be considered as an ominous Bill which provides for a number of amendments which are deemed necessary to conform with the FATF principles.
Thereby it protects the jurisdiction from exploitation by characters and maintaining the standard as a member of the international community.
The intentions of the Financial Action Task Force were outlined by the Attorney-General, the Honourable Vincent Byron Jr.
Anti-Proliferation (Financing of Weapons of Mass Destruction) Bill, 2020, was also passed in the house, which is a Bill to prevent, disrupt and criminalize the financing of the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
