The second phase of the Criminal Mediation Training Programme is being hosted in St kitts and Nevis. The government hosted phase one of the training programme back in June 2026 in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs.
The previous edition, facilitated by the Society of Mediators, a London-based organisation, was hosted over the course of five days. The week-long initiative was successful as the government worked on strengthening and modernising the criminal justice system.
During the previous edition of the training programme, the government worked on the establishment of a comprehensive restorative justice framework.
The officials have shared that this year, the training programme will run from August 24 to August 27, 2026.
The four day training is aimed towards making the justice system of the country better and more modern. The officials have also added that the second phase of the training programme is designed to further prepare participants for their anticipated roles within the emerging national mediation framework.
The organisation has shared that their focus remains on operational procedures, safeguarding, ethical requirements and practical application. The Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs is organising the training programme to build local capacity in restorative justice and criminal mediation.
The training programme will feature a series of intensive exercises, role plays and mediation simulations. The training will allow the participants to strengthen the skills needed to support the effective implementation of criminal mediation in St Kitts and Nevis.
The programme will give the participants the opportunity to develop knowledge and practical skills necessary to promote dialogue, accountability, rehabilitation, and more effective conflict resolution.
