Acting Financial Secretary Carlton Pogson talked about the economy of St Kitts and Nevis during a recent edition of the “InFocus”. The weekly interview and discussion series is designed to help the people keep up to date with the developments which are taking place in the country 

During the most recent episode of this interview series, the Acting Financial Secretary informed the people that the country’s economy is on a positive tragectory. He has announced that the economy of the country is on a solid performance leg.

According to the financial expert, the good performance of the St Kitts and Nevis economy is being driven by the government’s mandate to reduce dependency on the funds generated by the country’s citizenship by investment programme. He said that the government is moving decisively towards reducing dependence on CBI funds and developing other sources of revenue and diversifying the country’s economy. 

He highlighted the nation is seeing diligent domestic tax collections, and targeted sector expansions. The official also shared that the nation is transitioning from single source economic volatility. Pogson said that as the nation sees reduced funds from the Citizenship Programme, the economy is relying on a robust domestic tax base.

The Acting Financial Secretary shared the credit for this victory to the people of the island and local businesses. They have been diligently meeting the state obligations and helped in improving the stability of the St Kitts and Nevis economy. 

The nation has been receiving steady collections in taxes from property, corporate, and unincorporated business. The government has also been receiving consistent collections within the social security fund. The financial expert highlighted that if all the people pay all their taxes and contribute to social security, they help drive the government income base.

He also talked about the various capital projects that are in progress around the country. He said that these projects are creating jobs and opportunities for the people, growing the economy of the country. 

He called it the economy’s multiplier, as the projects bring more revenue into the government treasury.
