Two athletes, Alexander Caines and Shamarie Newton are representing the St. Kitts and Nevis in Track and Field games at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. The names of the athletes were announced by the St. Kitts and Nevis Athletics yesterday.
They shared the event categories where the athletes will be performing, Caines will compete in the 800 m and the preliminary heats and final rounds are scheduled to take place from July 27 to 29. Newton will be participating in the 100m and the first round of the events will take place on July 27. The semi-finals and final will be held on July 28, 2026.
The SKN Athletics mentioned that both athletes were selected on the basis of their performance. Caines and Newton beat their personal-best during a stellar season. The organization also stated that their selection in the team reflects their dedication and hard work.
Additionally, the organization wished good luck to both athletes and stated they felt proud of them for representing the federation on the international platform. The SKN Athletics said, “We extend our best wishes to Alexander and Shamarie as they proudly represent the Federation, Go Team St. Kitts and Nevis”.
The organization also extended sincere gratitude to the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee for providing the opportunities to the island athletes to represent the federation in the international stage. Moreover apart from the Track & Field event St Kitts and Nevis also have representation in the swimming event for the first time.
Jonathan Essien and Skyla Conor are the first athletes from the federation who will be participating in the swimming event. Conor is participating in the 50 m Freestyle and 50 m Breaststroke the event has begun as it is scheduled to run from July 24 to 29. Essien is competing in 50m and 100m Butterfly events and it also began on July 24 and will run until July 29.
Notably, both the teams are led by the SKNAF President Eldon Thomas accompanied by physiotherapist David Steven.
