Jonathan Essien and Skyla Connor will represent the St. Kitts and Nevis at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. The games will commence from tomorrow Thursday July 23, 2026 and run through to August 2, 2026. The announcement was made by the St. Kitts Nevis Aquatics Federation SKNAF.
The organization stated that both the swimmers made history as they became the first athletes in the federation to compete in the Commonwealth Games. In the 2026 Commonwealth Games Skyla will be competing in 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke events and Jonathan will compete in 50m and 100m Butterfly events.
Moreover, Eldon Thomas, president of the SKNAF accompanied the swimmers and will act as the Team Manager and Coach. The organization shared that the representation of the federation at the international platforms reflects the administration and organization’s commitment of advancing the aquatics sports in the twin islands.
The organization appreciated both the athletes for the hard work that they have put into this sport. They said, it is because of this dedication that they have achieved this milestone in their career. The SKNAF said, “This historic milestone reflects the athletes dedication, perseverance, and hard work while marking another important step forward for aquatics in St. Kitts & Nevis”.
The SKNAF even expressed gratitude to the St. Kitts & Nevis Olympic Committee for supporting the athletes and providing them opportunities to represent the federation on the international stage. They said, “A Sincere thank you to the St. Kitts & Nevis Olympic Committee for its continued support in helping make this moment possible”.
Notably, Skyla Connor also represented St. Kitts and Nevis previously and has competed in several national and international events. She participated in the 2026 CARIFTA Aquatics Championships which were held at the Martinique from April 3 to 8, 2026 and in 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.
Jonathan Essien also participated in regional tournaments; in recent he participated in the Swedish Swimming Championship and represented his Swedish club as he is currently pursuing his higher education in Sweden
