As the newest member of the medical team on the island, he has been entrusted with the responsibility for overseeing the phased rollout of a full spectrum of cardiology services at Joseph N. France (JNF) General Hospital. He will also be responsible for the establishment of the Outpatient Cardiology Clinics.
The outpatient clinics will be held twice weekly at the JNF General Hospital allowing the people from across the island to get check ups. Under the leadership of Dr Olivera, the JNF General Hospital is expected to have 24-hour inpatient Cardiology Coverage.
The Administration wants to ensure that the people have access to round-the-clock specialist cardiac care. The hospital will also have Echocardiogram Services for both inpatient cases and emergency room presentations.
The hospital will also start providing CT Angiogram Services for the people of the island. The officials have shared that CT Angiogram will help the people access advanced diagnostic imaging. Finally, the new cardiology department will also have 24-Hour Holter Monitoring to help in continuous cardiac assessment of inpatient cases.
Dr Angel Luis Olivera will also establish Pacemaker Insertion Services at JNF General Hospital and help people of the island get access to critical device therapy
Dr. Olivera is also to educate the Ministry of Health on the groundwork that is required for the future installation of a cardiac catheterisation facility.
The doctor will also educate the existing staff of the hospital and get them up to date on cardiology fundamentals and best practices. He will conduct weekly Continuing Medical Education (CME) sessions for relevant medical and nursing staff. He will also provide dedicated training in echocardiography and related diagnostic modalities to general practitioners and internal medicine physicians.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, who also handles the responsibility for the Ministry of Health, was delighted to welcome the nation’s first resident cardiologist to the island. Talking about this appointment he said, “This represents the continued expansion of specialized services at our hospital to serve the people of St. Kitts and Nevis,”
