St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party convened for the 94th Annual Conference of the Political Party on Sunday, May 17. The members of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party came together to celebrate the longstanding history of the island nation. 

All the leaders, representatives, custodians and supporters of the political party came together in the party headquarters to celebrate the 94 year milestone. The conference, which started at 3:00 PM for the general public, saw the representatives from all eight constituencies. 

The Political leader of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew was one of the featured speakers at the conference. In his address, Dr Drew talked about the history of the political party, starting with its origins as  the St Kitts and Nevis Worker’s League. 

Dr Drew talked about the profound impact that the political party has had on the history and the political landscape of the country. The Members of the Political Party has shared that SKNLP has been a very important part of the history of the country.

He talked about how the political party started as a platform to fight for the rights of the workers of the country. He also reflected how even before the nation attained full independence, the political party and its leaders were responsible for bringing significant evolutions to the country. 

The Prime Minister credited the introduction of free secondary education in the country. The Prime Minister of the country also highlighted that the Political Party, under its various leaderships has developed St Kitts and Nevis. While giving the past leaders of the political movement their due credit, Dr Terrance Drew, the present political leader of the party, also highlighted the achievements  that the current SKNLP Led administration has recorded. 

Dr Drew spoke about the advancements which  his administration has brought along since he took office in 2022. He highlighted that  when they had taken office, the JNF General Hospital needed significant upgrades. He highlighted that before they took office, the roof of the Hospital leaked in several places.

Further, the hospital did not have eye surgery facilities and people were not able to access appropriate treatment. After the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, the eye clinic was upgraded and surgeries were opened for the public to access.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the shortage of ambulances which the nation faced before SKNLP came into office. He said that seeing the issues that the people were facing, he decided that they needed a full fleet of ambulances in St Kitts and Nevis. 

He also talked about the New Climate Smart General Hospital which is currently being constructed. He said that the hospital is crucial for the people of the nation as it will successfully withstand the hurricane season, and higher category hurricanes in the event that St Kitts and Nevis is affected. 

Speaking on this topic, Dr Terrance Drew highlighted that the current hospital, which serves as the Primary Healthcare Facility of the country, was also constructed by the Labour Administration. 

He went on to say, “Only St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party constructs hospitals in the country.”
The Prime Minister also highlighted the progress that the nation has seen in water access being made available to the people. On this note, Prime Minister also called out the previous administration for their inaction on the matter of water security. 

Dr Terrance Drew also talked about the Basseterre High School, which is under construction in the country. He said that the previous administration continued to delay the construction of the school and caused distress to students. 

He was also proud to announce that the school is being constructed and already providing employment opportunities to the people of the island.  

In addition to celebrating the legacy of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, the conference highlights its far reaching impact on the country and the region. The conference also highlights the achievements of the administration of the country
