The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Terrance Drew spoke to the members of the media during the February edition of the roundup. The Prime Minister started his address to the media with a shoutout to the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry has recorded several achievements in the previous year, chief among them is zero maternal deaths that have been reported in St Kitts and Nevis in the last year.
In the Parliamentary sitting which the Prime Minister attended last week, he has announced that the nation has not seen any maternal deaths in the country in 2026. This, he confirmed to be true during the roundup.
However, he also added that the nation has not seen any maternal deaths in the whole year 2025 either. He applauded the Ministry of Health and all the allied stakeholders who made this possible.
Another crucial topic which Dr Drew addressed during his address with the members of the media was the full ownership of the Frigate Bay by the state of St Kitts and Nevis. The acquisition of the Frigate Bay land brings 77.23 acres of Prime Frigate Bay land into full state ownership, along with the golf course lands, the golf club house, and its operating company.
The Prime Minister said that there was an agreement with a company to manage the golf course, which is in association with Marriott.
That agreement had covered most of the golf course. The land that was in that agreement only accommodated 15 holes. The last three holes did not belong to the state. The last three holes, to make it an 18-hole course were part of the privately owned land.
However, the state have now acquired the land which has the last three holes. The Prime Minister confirmed that they have acquired 77.23 acres of Prime Frigate Bay land. The land will be utilized to provide home ownership to the young people of the country.
Dr Terrance Drew said that some of the land will be utilized for residential and commercial lots. The government has a clear focus on providing young citizens access to land ownership. Dr Drew said that this move is to get our people to be able to build in Frigate Bay.
The administration will be doing away with issues that people might raise with respect to, “Over here is for a certain group of people, and over there for the next group.”
Dr Drew said, “We are eliminating that, and we’ll make lots available for our ordinary people here in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
