The Special Olympics St. Kitts and Nevis (SOSKN) team is all set to participate in the first edition of the Special Olympics Unified 3×3 Unified Basketball title. The team left for Guadeloupe on Friday, November 14, 2025 to participate in the sports event.
The team is led by coach Kenroy Tobias and Debra Matthew, SOSKN board member. The athletes who formed part of the SOSKN delegation include athletes A’Sharia Whyte, Mikhail Powell-Braizier, T’Shawn Carty, Tiana Hendrickson, T’Shawn Butler.
Guadeloupe is the first country to organise Special Olympics Unified 3×3 Unified Basketball in Basse-terre from November 13 to November 16, 2025. Mixed teams from all over the Caribbean will come to Gaudeloupe for the prestigious Special Olympics Unified 3×3 Unified Basketball title.
According to the reports from the special olympics committee organising the event, the unified sports format is central to the competition. Every team competing for the title will consist of male and female athletes, half of the team will be composed of people with intellectual disabilities. The other half will consist of people without intellectual disabilities.
The format has been designed to make sure that all the people with all the disabilities feel included in the sports. The athletes will learn teamwork and work towards social integration.
The teams will come from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Jamaica , St. Maarten. St. Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago and Guadeloupe.
All the teams will compete in division games to make sure all the countries will get a fair chance to advance in the tournament. The Special Olympic Committees from all over the Caribbean are proud to have worked together towards the realisation of the landmark event. This is a historic beginning and promises to be a major step towards inclusion for people with disabilities
The participation of St. Kitts and Nevis team has been made possible with the support of executive director of the Special Olympics Caribbean initiative Lorna Bell. The organisation has been dedicated to planning the event perfectly so as to make sure that athletes are given the chance to compete and shine on the regional level.
