The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew addressed the media during the October edition of the Roundtable and talked about St Kitts-Nevis Fair share. He addressed some of the more important issues and provided updates regarding the new developments which have taken place in the last thirty days.
The first order of business which the Prime Minister addressed during his roundtable was the issue of fair share. He has spoken to the media regarding this issue on several occasions and as such, he reported that the world bank has shared their fair share report.
Further, the members of the federal cabinet have taken a look at the report. Furthermore, the Nevis Island Administration has shared that the members of their cabinet have also been given time to read the report.
The federal administration and NIA will both meet to complete the discussion on the matter. The officials have shared that the issue has been ongoing for months, with the members of the administrations working together.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the constitution of the country has already prescribed a method for fair share of revenue in the 75-25 manner. The officials have shared that this sharing method has been prescribed with the population of the two islands.
This sharing method is prescribed for tax incomes, which is left after paying for essential and basic sectors like national security. However, the revenue from CBI is a different matter and needed the intervention from the international community.
Not withstanding the World Bank Fair Share Report, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew said that they should be able to share the revenue in the 75% and 25%. This would be done in the spirit of the constitution of St Kitts and Nevis.
The officials have shared that it is important for the people of the island should be able to share their resources in a more interested manner.
