Prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew is all set to travel to Africa for a series of bilateral events bringing the continent of Africa and the Caribbean closer together. The Prime Minister has been working with international partners for the last several months on bridging the gap between the two regions. During this week, Dr Drew will be travelling to Algeria for the 4th edition of the Intra-Africa Trade Fair.
The focus of this visit will be to discuss the developments in the business, investments and connections that can be created between the two nations. The previous edition of the Intra-Africa trade fair were platform for St Kitts and Nevis to secure international partners.
During this week, the Prime Minister will also be visiting Ethiopia for the first in person meeting between the stakeholders of the African Union and the CARICOM. The two organizations are meeting for the second time for under the banner of the CARICOM-African Union Summit.
The event will be hosted in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Prime Minister noted that St Kitts and Nevis can learn significantly from the history of Ethiopia. The country was a rare exception in Africa for being the only nation to successfully resist colonialism.
Prime Minister Drew says it is crucial for the leadership of the two organizations to work together and collaborate on developmental avenues. St Kitts and Nevis has been advocating that they have to take active steps to bring the two regions together.
In a recent media interaction, Dr Terrance Drew said that it will be his honor to visit nations within Africa. In the said interaction, Dr Drew had also noted that the Africa is full of potential and has seen significant attention from the rest of the world.
Nations like the United States of America, China and more have been showing significant interest in working with Africa. As such, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew argued that when the rest of the world is interested in collaborating with Africa, Caribbean shares historical connections and struggles with the continent.
The two regions have more than most reasons to collaborate and support each other in development avenues.
