Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has revealed that community health stakeholders have been working hard to bring vaccinations to the doorstep of children across the island. This, PM Drew said during a press interaction on Tuesday, where he was accompanied by the members of his Cabinet. The Prime Minister who also handles the responsibility for the Ministry of Health informed that the vaccination rates in the country are climbing steadily
According to the Prime Minister, in the last few months, the dedicated staff and volunteers of the Community Health have helped improve children vaccination rates. The community health stakeholders have been going into communities and schools to give vaccination to the children.
The Prime Minister has confirmed that they are making every effort to bring the vaccination rates upwards of 90 percent. The Prime Minister has shared they have put several measures to support this particular mandate.
‘we have actually procured a bus and the main purpose of that bus is to go around the community and find persons who have not been vaccinated.’ Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew said.
According to PM Terrance Drew, the rates of vaccinations went down due to two major reasons, people were hesitant about taking the vaccination. Further, people were also not able to access healthcare in a proper hospital during the worldwide pandemic.
The Prime Minister noted that they do not want to have any exceptions and thus the nurses and community healthcare stakeholders have been reaching out. They are meeting the people where they are, children are being approached by officers in their homes, schools and given the vaccination.
The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis was proud to announce that the country now has a very respectable threshold of vaccinations. He also confirmed that the Public Health Stakeholder are working hard to make sure that this number reaches a 100 percent.
