The government of St Kitts and Nevis remains committed to having a modern facility that features the latest technology and learning techniques. This initiative includes the construction of the new Basseterre High School scheduled to begin in the coming weeks of 2025.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Dr Geoffrey Hanley, during a press conference with members of the Cabinet on Thursday, March 6th, 2025, said that this new school will be different from all the other schools across St Kitts and Nevis.

According to the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) report, the demolition of the old Basseterre High School building started in December 2023. The ESIA has been commissioned by the government of St Kitts and Nevis to ensure proper construction with all the necessary precautions in the area.

Minister Hanley stated “We are ensuring that all the bases are covered because we must, and we will do it right.”

Furthermore, the Ministry of Education received requests from various schools across St Kitts and Nevis to schedule their sports meet on the grounds of Victoria Road in Basseterre. The government said that they are beginning the work on the high school soon as part of honoring the requests made.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley stated that almost 95% of the workforce constructing the new Basseterre High School would be the local community.

Locals are appreciating the government’s efforts for committing to the education of the young children.
