Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley acknowledged Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) Government for their continuous efforts and support in securing the necessary funding to advance geothermal energy in the Federation.
Premier Brantley said during one his interviews that the geothermal development has been in pursuit for decades and the firm commitment and strategic leadership of PM Drew is what made this project a reality.
He called the project a shared vision of PM Drew and himself – a vision to work together to finish the geothermal project to benefit all the citizens and residents of St Kitts and Nevis, while anticipating the transformation it will bring.
Sufficient Funding – A necessary step
Premier Mark Brantley stated that securing the necessary funds was an important step in moving forward with this project. He further added that with the help from Saudi Fund for Development, they will receive extra funding to complete the geothermal project.
He added that it’s about 20 million US dollars that allows them to work on the construction phase of the project. Premier Brantley said that for the first time in history, they have sufficient funding to start the drilling of the production wells which is one of the most risky parts of the project in terms of financial risk.
Geothermal Energy: A national goal
The government of the Twin Island Nation, St Kitts and Nevis has been giving importance to the geothermal project since 2004. Despite failures in securing funding in the past, the government of St Kitts and Nevis, has managed to secure over US$37 million in funding under the leadership of PM Drew.
It is worth noting that US$17 million was received from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and an additional US$20 million was received from the Saudi Fund for Development.

According to Premier Brantley, the geothermal project is an evolving initiative that will transform the economy of St Kitts and Nevis. This will help the nation to be a leader in green energy while reducing the nation’s support on tourism and Citizenship by Investment (CBI) revenue.
