St Kitts and Nevis saw an 11 percent decrease in crimes in almost every category in 2024 as compared to the year 2023, reported by the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF).

This decrease has improved community engagement, successful hosting of international events, and effective law enforcement in the twin island nation.

Commissioner of Police, James Sutton said that the year 2024 was a very productive year for the police as they managed to reduce crime rate in different categories.

He also appreciated the government for providing essential tools, resources, and training that empowered the members of the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) to fulfill their duties.

Commissioner Sutton further thanked their local, regional, and international law enforcement partners, along with the people of St Kitts and Nevis, for their continuous support and cooperation.

Reduction in major crime categories

  • Homicides – from 31 to 28, a 10% reduction
  • Firearm related offenses – from 31 to 19, a 39% reduction
  • Malicious damage – reduced by 30%
  • Body harm / woundings – from 161 to 144, a 11% reduction
  • Larcenies – Reduced by 12%
  • Break ins – Reduced by 1%
  • Drug possession – Reduced by 5%

Despite these reductions in major crimes, St Kitts and Nevis saw an 6% increase, from 68 to 72 in sexual offenses and an 8% increase, from 39 to 42 in robberies.

Decrease in Homicide cases

A major accomplishment of the police force was the resolution of 16 out of the 28 homicide cases recorded in 2024, with a 57% resolution rate.

Deputy Police Commissioner, Cromwell Henry stated that if a person knows they will get caught if they commit a crime, then they will not do it. He added that detecting the crime is a good form of prevention.

Looking ahead to 2025

Commissioner Sutton stated that the public can expect the police force to be more determined in enforcing their laws with a greater police presence and use of additional technology to enhance citizen security in 2025.
