Nevis invests in affordable housing; 46 new homes planned for 2025

Eric Evelyn, Deputy Premier and Minister of Lands and Housing, shared an update that the Nevis Housing and Land Development Corporation (NHLDC) has budgeted to complete the construction of the 46 affordable houses for the citizens and residents of Nevis in 2025.

This initiative was proposed by the government of Nevis and state owned NHLDC, due to the continued demand for low cost housing for the upliftment of the community.

Deputy Premier Eric Evelyn stated that the construction of the forty-six (46) low-cost houses will soon be completed and will be equipped with all the required facilities.

He also revealed that these houses will have an area of 5,000 to 8,000 square feet of land approximately with four, three, two, and one bedroom each, respectively.

Moreover, NHLDC has constructed 329 houses from 2013 to 2024, with a total sum of $71.8 million.

These economical houses will provide the residents with access to modern amenities, infrastructure, and services, improving their standard of living while improving their quality of life.

Areas the houses will be distributed

  • Maddens (Cedar View) – 6 homes
  • Hamilton Estate (Sugar Mill Residencies) – 3 homes
  • Rice Village (Bay View Gardens) – 2 homes
  • Craddock Road (Mountain Crest Residences) – 5 homes
  • Low Ground Estate (Chimney Crescent) – 5 homes
  • Zion (New River) – 25 homes

Some other infrastructural projects

Additionally, he also shared some key infrastructure projects on which the government is also focused on, including road and drainage networks, along with water networks in certain areas.

He shared some areas like Cedar View, Madden’s Phase 3 that requires road and drainage network and water network while Mountain Crest Residencies (Craddock Road) needs road and drainage network.
