The long-awaited SKELEC Grand Parade is almost here, with the promise of unforgettable view of vibrant costumes, rhythms, and boundless energy.
This year, a tempting bait has been announced to take the parade to a new height, by awarding a $5,000 cash prize to the most Powerful Troupe (formerly Spirit of Carnival) display on the SKELEC Grand Parade.
The winner will be the one with the highest and loudest energy and captivating display as they cross the judging points, guaranteeing an experience that will stay be hard to forget.
Moreover, the Troupes registered can win up to $41,500 for the Grand Parade with various cash prizes awaiting them:-
- Troup of the Year – $25,000
- 2nd Place – $20,000
- 3rd Place – $15,000
- Section of the Year – $5,000
- SKELEC Most Powerful Troupe – $5,000
- King of the Bands – $2,500
- Queen of the Bands – $2,500
- First Troupe to reveal all costumes – $1,500
Judging points for SKELEC Grand Carnival Parade will take place inside of Dr. William Connor Primary School, Cayon Street (Amory Mall), and Crossing the Stage – Pond Road (in front of Newtown Playing Field).
Five judges will be assigned to each judging point with Sugar Mas’ Flags rising on both sides of the streets to show the judging points.
Judging criteria for Mas Bands inside of Dr. William Connor Primary School
- Presentation – 20 points
- Interpretation of Theme – 30 points
- Design – 30 points
- Craftsmanship – 20 points
Each troupe must have one male and one female reveler from each section to serve as models to evaluate the craftsmanship aspect of the costume from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the 1st judging point inside the school.
Judging criteria for Mas Bands at Amory Mall and Stage
- Presentation – 20 points
- Interpretation of Theme – 30 points
- Design – 30 points
Judging criteria for King and Queen of the Bands
- Presentation – 20 points
- Interpretation of Theme – 30 points
- Design – 30 points
- Craftsmanship – 20 points
Craftsmanship for troupes and King / Queen of the Bands will be judged only at Dr. William Connor Primary School with total points of 100 at the school and total points of 80 at other judging points.
Judging criteria for Section of the Year
- Presentation – 5 points
- Interpretation of Theme – 5 points
- Design – 5 points
