St Kitts and Nevis: The Government of St Kitts and Nevis have been encouraging the citizens and residents across the nation to participate in the upcoming annual National Tree Planting Day activities.

The Annual Tree Planting Day is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 31st, 2024 from 6 in the morning to 12 noon (6 am to 12 pm). The theme of the annual event is ‘One Tree At A Time, Growing Stronger Together.’

The Government used their official social media handle to urge the people to participate by noting major benefits of planting a tree.

The top three benefits of planting a tree mentioned by the authority are as follows:

  • Trees create diverse habitats for wildlife.
  • Trees absorb CO2 that reduces climate change and lowers the greenhouse gases.
  • Fruit trees provide local food sources and boosts food security.

The Ministry of Agriculture, et al., also took their official Facebook account to invite the citizens to participate in this initiative.

The Ministry noted, “Protecting the environment and promoting food security, come on out and do your part.”

The Department of Community Development and Social Services reshared the post of the Government and stated, “We’re sending a special invitation to Community-Based Organizations to participate in this initiative!”

They have also mentioned that outreach can be made to the Community Development Officer for any other query or information.

The government officials also sent invitation to the citizens and asked them to join the initiative as it will enhance their sustainable agenda.

Significantly, the Tree Planting will fight global warming by absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere, making them a vital component of climate change mitigation. They also contribute in supporting communities and enhancing the quality of life.

St Kitts and Nevis aims to become the first sustainable island state and initiative like the tree planting can help in contributing towards this significant goal so it is urged to all of the citizens and residents to come out and be a part of the drive.
