St. Kitts and Nevis: The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, through the Ministry of Sports extended a warm welcome to the Leeward Islands U19 Women’s Team that took part in the recently concluded the West Indies Rising Stars Women’s U19 Championship.
Minister of Sports, Samal Duggins led the welcome reception at the Robert L. Bradshaw (RLB) International Airport for the national players.
The Leeward Island’s Female Cricket Team which featured an impressive number of players from St. Kitts and Nevis currently led by the captain Jahzara Claxton, has achieved a historic milestone by finishing second in the prestigious West Indies Rising Stars Women’s U19 Championship.
For the welcoming ceremony at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, the Minister of Sports was joined by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Valencia Syder and other key officials from the St. Kitts Cricket Association.
Samal Duggins provided each member of the return Winning Team with a bouquet of flowers in their honour and a appreciation for performing well.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew also congratulated the Leeward Islands Under-19 Women’s Team for their outstanding performance in the CWI Rising Stars Under-19 Women’s T-20 Championship through his Facebook account. The team finished 2nd in the championship stated PM Drew.
Beyond individual achievements, as a captain, Jahzara Claxton, has showcased dedication and strategic thinking that has led to team’s success. The leadership style and commitment to the sport have earned her admiration and respect among the peers and cricket enthusiasts.
Jahzara’s outstanding tournament performance earned her the MVP award, with 11 wickets and 191 runs at an average of 43.75.
Despite of the equal fight put up by the other team in previous tournaments, the Leeward Islands Team demonstrated notable improvement and competitive spirit throughout the championship.
