The St Kitts and Nevis Athletics Association is all set to host its highly anticipated TDC, Track and Field Interschool Championship from March 14 to 17, 2024. As per the information, this is the first time in history that the sports meet will span around four days.
The first two days, i.e., March 14 and 15, 2024, the meet will be held at the Kim Collins Athletic Stadium, St Kitts. On the last two days, March 16 and 17, the meet will be held at the Nevis Athletics Stadium, Nevis.
To ensure the success of the championship, this time, the Athletics Association has been hosting a series of consultation meetings with key stakeholders, including the Departments of Sports and Education on both St Kitts and Nevis as well as the principals of high schools in St Kitts and Nevis.
The team is expected to meet with hoteliers and owners of guest houses on Nevis, vendors, security forces, and boat operators in the coming weeks to ensure a seamless transition when the championship takes place in Nevis.
This move to make the championship a multi-city event is being done to facilitate the work which continues to be done at the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium in St. Kitts.
St Kitts and Nevis Athletics Association have extended their confidence for this multi-city championship, and at the same time, they also wish it to be a success.
They also thanked all the major stakeholders involved, especially the Federal Government of St Kitts and Nevis, the Nevis Island Administration, and the TDC Group of Companies.
Notably, the TDC Interschool Championship is an open demonstration of athletics prowess by several community schools across the island. The championship is held at the National level among different schools and age groups, i.e. Under 14, Under 17, Under 18 and Under 20.
In 2023, the Charles E. Mills Secondary School (CEMSS) Eagles won by capturing 66 medals, including 35 golds, 19 silvers, and 12 bronzes. The 2023 championship was held from March 24 to March 26 at the Kim Collins Stadium, St Kitts.
The Charlestown Secondary School stood at the 2nd position after clinching 58 medals, including 27 golds, 16 silvers, and 15 bronzes in their team.
