Jahzara Claxton was named sports personality of the year as part of the 4th annual St Kitts Nevis Riddim Awards.

Jahzara Claxton always took advantage of an opportunity to run and play. She thoroughly enjoyed the various ways her body was able to move, and slowly but surely, it grew into her love for athletics.
Jahzara recalls practising her kicking technique early on, which resulted in breaking her mother’s window. That technique earned her a spot on the Bronte Welsh Primary School’s football team.
Jahzara career
In 2016, Jahzara won the Primary School Lawn Tennis Championship. She was adjudged player of the year.
Not only was she a skilled footballer, but her positive attitude towards the sport allowed her to be made Captain of the team while she was in grade.
By Grade 6, the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) selected Jahzara as one of two students to be a part of the FIFA World Cup Football for Friendship initiative in Russia.
Her athletic ability earned her school a place on the Rams Primary Athletic Competition podium after she won gold medals for the cricket ball throw for three consecutive years.
Jahzara represented St. Kitts in the 2016 and 2018 Caribbean Union of Teachers Games, winning gold in the cricket ball throw for her age class on both occasions.
Jahzara swiftly set records in javelin, the 400m and 800m races and became one of the youngest Victrix Ludorum at the TDC Interschool Championship 2019-2020.
In 2018, she represented St Kitts and Nevis at the CONCACAF U15 Girls Tournament at age 12. Over the years, Jahzara continued to be a prominent feature of the SKNFA’s U14, U17, U20 and most recently, the National Women’s Football Team.
Earlier this year, Jahzara and the coveted Sugar Girls were seen across numerous social media platforms dominating the FIFA World Cup and achieving an international FIFA ranking of 130.
Jahzara’s dedication to sports is a good explanation for leading her to be omitted as sports person of the year.
