Five new athletes of St Kitts and Nevis have successfully secured their spot for the CARIFTA Games 2024 by qualifying at the SL Horsfords Classic 200m run held on Sunday at the Nevis Athletics Stadium.

The Carifta 2024 will be held on the spice island of Grenada from March 30 to April 1, 2024, at the Kirani James Athletic Stadium, Georgetown.

As per the information, the Horsfords Classic Track and Field in Nevis was held among over 300 athletes in the top junior and senior categories who showcased their marvellous performances in various track and field events, marking the beginning of an exhilarating track season.

Among those standout players, DeCheynelle Thomas, the Under 17 player, has qualified in 200m, Malik Freeman in U17 Shot Put, Kilan Morton in U20 Shot Put, Dethrone Harris in U20 Shot Put, and Jalen Daniel in U20 Javelin.

The St Kitts and Nevis Athletics Association has extended their pride and congratulated the players for their victory and marking their remarkable performances.

Wallis Wilkin, Marketing Manager at Horsford, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “The SL Horsfords Classic is a testament to our commitment to fostering sports development. We are proud to support the growth of athletics in the region and provide a platform for athletes to showcase their talents.”

He also noted that the event goes beyond the track and is about nurturing the future of athletics in the Caribbean.

Notably, After clinching gold at the 50th CARIFTA Games 2023, which concluded in the Bahamas, the Under 17 champion, DeCheynelle Thomas, has qualified for the international platform again.

Thomas hails from the small village of Saddlers/Dieppe Bay in St Kitts and Nevis. For the past few years, she has been actively participating and representing herself at the national and international levels. She stood among the Best in the Female 400M.

In November 2023, after Clocking a time of 57.30 in the 400m, she became the first qualifier for the CARIFTA. Alongside her, Jaheem Clarke and Abijah Nemdhari qualified in the U17 Boys Javelin event with a throw of 45.12m and 49.69m, respectively.
