Vaughn Sturge, a dedicated member of the Nevis Fisheries team, proudly represented the St Kitts and Nevis during a special training session in Japan.
The training objective was “Sustainable use of fish resources through fish-based livelihood diversification in small island states.”
The goal of this get-together training was to provide participants with information on increasing the diversity of fishing
So, in adhering to the St Kitts and Nevis government’s vision and goal of creating a sustainable twin island, Vaughn Sturge took a step to contribute by working towards sustainable fishing.
Fisheries Assistant, Department of Marine Resources Vaughn Sturge expressed his enthusiasm for the valuable knowledge gained during the training course in Japan.
Vaughn Sturge, who focused on fishing cooperatives and the creation and implementation of action plans, found the latter particularly exciting and crucial.

Vaughn Sturge believes that the information gathered from the course, held 16/10-29/11/2023, will play a key role in the association’s efforts to diversify fishing practices and then expand local markets for fishermen. With a forward-looking approach,
Vaughn Sturge hopes these practices will impact the fishing industry at the local, regional, and international levels, promoting its sustainability and prosperity.
Moving towards sustainability, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Denzil Douglas took to social media and announced that he attended a meeting in collaboration with the High Commission of St Kitts Nevis to Canada.
The high-level virtual Meeting was held with Dr. Rustum Southwell, the recently appointed Chancellor of Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada.
The main aim of the Meeting was to discuss development initiatives and to strengthen long standing relationship between the government of St Kitts and Nevis and Dalhousie University.
