Marsha Henderson, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation and International Transport, divulged the new Apron at St Kitts Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, marking a significant advancement in the country’s aviation infrastructure on December 20, 2023.
Minister Henderson celebrated the unveiling of a new Apron at the airport, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s aviation infrastructure developments, a culmination of diligent efforts and meticulous planning.
Minister Henderson reports that the Apron, a 20-year-old aircraft, has been experiencing wear and tear, causing operational challenges and restrictions for aircraft over 50,000 pounds.
The project was initiated on November 16, 2023, and was incredibly finalized six days early of schedule and within budget. The appreciation goes to the airport management’s commitment and dedication.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we are reminded today of the indispensable role that infrastructure development plays in cultivating a thriving tourism industry”, added Minister Henderson.
The tourism Minister highlighted that the government’s commitment to providing an exceptional experience for visitors and industry stakeholders is evident in the Apron, which was built on investment in aviation infrastructure, paving the way for growth and economic prosperity.
The project involved removing existing surface and sealing cracks to ensure the longevity and reliability of the Apron, with permanent markings replacing temporary markings after a protective sealant application in January 2024.
Minister Henderson expressed gratitude to various stakeholders, including the St. Christopher Air & Sea Ports Authority, Kelly Construction, Urban Development Corporation, St. Kitts Tourism Authority, and the Ministry of Tourism, for their cooperation.
Minister Henderson emphasized the significance of the resurfaced Apron as a symbol of progress and a brighter future for the nation.
She noted the potential for great things to be achieved through collaboration, innovation, and a shared vision for growth, which he and his team will continue to prioritize.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, Deputy Prime Minister Geoffrey Hanley, Cabinet members, senior government officials, key stakeholders, and representatives from partnering organizations.
