The prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, took to his social media account to share a significant update regarding the payment of gratuities to the employees who have retired from their positions of service from the government after serving for a minimum of ten years. Under Dr Drew’s leadership, the government has resumed the payments of Government Auxiliary Employees (GAEs).
The country’s prime minister shared that In 2021 the end-of-tenure gratuity that rewarded the workers for their years of sterling service was discontinued by the former government. The government of St Kitts and Nevis took the initiative to reintroduce the gratuity payments. They claim they recognize the hardship discontinuation presented and have taken the necessary steps to rectify this unjust practice.
Dr Terrance Drew shared that his government formalized the payment of gratuities on May 11, 2023. The team of Dr Drew has remained steadfast and committed to ensuring that our workers are valued for their contributions. The government is working to ensure that the people of St Kitts and Nevis are provided with fair compensation, whether retired or still with us.
Dr Terrance Drew stated that We all play a vital role in the progression and development of our nation. After lifting the discontinuation of the gratuity payments, after almost two years, The GAEs were presented with their payments during a brief but significant ceremony. The event was held at the NEMA Conference Room this morning.
Cabinet members, including Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr Terrance Drew and Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley; senior Government officials from various departments and impacted retired Government Auxiliary Employees attended the signing ceremony. The ceremony proves the government’s commitment to working for the betterment and development of the country.
