Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, took to his social media account to share to share some glimpses of the Annual National Conference for St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party. The political party celebrates 91 years of dedicated and transformative service to the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis. The political party is the oldest labour-affiliated movement in the English-speaking Caribbean.

The Prime Minister accordingly reflected that it is not only a historic day for St Kitts and Nevis when it comes to party politics, but it is also a historic day for the Caribbean when it comes to politics. Dr Drew reflected that being the oldest political party in the English-speaking Caribbean, it is the responsibility of the political party to introduce good to the region and the international community.

The political party, Dr Terrance Drew believes, was built on the foundation of “The good that we can do.” Accordingly, Dr Terrance Drew stated that the goodness that we aim to bring must not remain confined to only St Kitts and Nevis. The Prime Minister addressed the people of the country, stating that the regional and international community looks to us for leadership. The prime minister of the country then took the opportunity to reflect on the history of the political party.

Dr Terrance Drew stated that the political party started in 1932 as Labour movement, which further transformed into the St Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla Labour Party and the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party with time. He recalled the buckley’s uprising, where according to Dr Terrance Drew, the people of the country were “gunned down” for the struggle for social justice. Dr Drew reflected that the uprising shook the foundation of colonization in the country.

The prime minister of the country further reflected on the achievements of the people of the country throughout the course of the country’s history. Dr Terrance Drew stated that under the leadership of the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party, the people of St Kitts and Nevis successfully created the international airport, the deep sea port, got access to comprehensive secondary education, universal healthcare and more.
