St Kitts and Nevis are hosting an activism campaign towards the prevention of Gender Violence. The 16-day campaign will start on November 25, 2022. The date commemorates the UN Designated International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The Ministry of Social Development & Gender Affairs has urged residents and citizens to join the organizing authorities at the campaign launch event on Friday, November 25, at 4:00 PM.
Ministry of Social Development & Gender Affairs will host the launch event at Independence Square, Basseterre. The 16-day event will start on Friday, November 25 and last for two weeks ending on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
The campaign’s theme, “WOMEN’S RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS!” is ample proof of the Government of St Kitts and Nevis’ commitment to ending gender-based violence against women.
Ministry of Social Development & Gender Affairs has invited several notable performers to entertain the attendants at the campaign launch event.
These performers include famous St Kittitian and Nevisian artists like Infamus, Collin Wyatt, Queenie G, Miss Independent, Blessed, and Leandre Dyer.
The Government of St Kitts and Nevis, under the leadership of Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, is committed to providing a strengthened and regulated response to gender-based violence.
Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, Attorney General Garth Wilkin, interacted with the Prime Minister regarding the issue. The Prime Minister assured him and the residents and citizens of St Kitts and Nevis about the government’s willingness to work towards eliminating gender-based violence against women of the federation.
This interaction between the two parties bore fruit in the form of a domestic violence bill which was passed in the general assembly with unanimous support from both the ruling party and the leaders of the opposition.
