The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew has extended his support and condolences to the government of Morocco on account of the country facing the most deadly earthquake that hit on Saturday, September 8, 2023. The earthquake was of the magnitude 7.0.
According to the reports shared by the Moroccan Government, through their internal ministry, the earthquake has led to the deaths of a total of 2122 people. Further, reports suggest that 2421 people are injured as an effect of the natural calamity.
The death toll has been rising with every incoming new report that reaches the government. The international agencies have revealed that the natural disaster is one of the most horrifying and life threatening situations to be faced by the government and the people of Morocco.
The incident has attracted a lot of attention from the international community as the governments from across the globe have come forward in the time of need for Morocco to extend their support. The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, on the behalf of their government and people have also joined the international community to share their heartfelt condolences to the government and the people of Morocco.
The prime minister especially directed his condolences to the families of the victims, for the loss of lives and devastation that the powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake caused. The earthquake struck Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains on Friday, September 8.
Dr Terrance Drew specified that the provinces of Al Haouz, Ouarzazate, Marrakech, Azilal, Chichaoua, and Taroudant were some of the worst affected areas as a result of the unforeseen disaster. Note that the prime minister also spoke to the Ambassador Queeley of Morocco after the news of the incident reached him.
During the interaction, Ambassador Queeley assured Prime Minister Drew that all the nationals of St Kitts and Nevis, living in Morocco, were safe from the affects of the earthquake.
Dr Terrance Drew addressed the government and people of Morocco and noted that their hearts were with the people in this time of crisis.
