The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, recently shared screen space with the minister of agriculture, creative economy, etc. Samal Duggins and the radio show host of Winn FM, Jermine. He appeared on the WinnFM news show, Inside the News. PM drew the initiative to discuss several initiatives during the radio interview.
Since the Prime Minister was sitting in the discussion alongside Minister Duggins, he took the opportunity to congratulate him on the official launch of the Ministry of Creative Economy. The official launch of the Ministry of the creative economy took place on Friday, July 28, 2023. All the department members attended the launch event, including the Ministry of the creative economy and other government officials.
Further, Dr Drew expanded upon how the Ministry of Creative Economy can assist the country and the government in reaching their sustainable development mandate. The prime minister stated that creatives are a fundamental part of any modern, new economy in the future. He asserted that we need to take our artists seriously.
The country’s people must assure the artisans that there are fundamental patterns to bring them to the mainstream. In line with this, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew announced that the government had appointed an ambassador of culture (cultural ambassador) and an ambassador of music.
Through this initiative, they want to emphasize their focus on pursuing these areas. The prime minister reiterated his support to Ambassador Kervin Benjamin, also known as Infamus. A team of five, led by the musical ambassador, went to Jamaica to represent St Kitts and Nevis. Dr Drew said they did some quality work and collaboration during their visit to Jamaica.
Dr Terrance Drew further announced that they would release these collaborative works immediately. DJ Terro has been appointed as the Cultural Ambassador of St. Kitts and Nevis. Accordingly, the Prime Minister announced that he is also contributing to the sector further. He also spoke of the various members of the creative economy who helped in furthering the Ministry.
Further, Dr Terrance Drew announced that they are very serious about the Ministry of the creative economy. Afterwards, the discussion shifted to the agricultural front. Dr Drew stated that the department continues to be an area that we would invest in.
They seek to develop on the 2025 initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture. He stated that it was extremely important and very significant. Dr Drew noted that as we go along, the farmers and the livestock farmers or crop farmers, whatever role you play in agriculture, even as vendors, in the space, we will continue to improve that Ministry or that sector significantly.
Dr Terrance Drew expanded upon the issues of promoting food security in the federation. Accordingly, he spoke during his interview that Food security is fundamental and critically important. Therefore we must create an environment that favours food security.
In line with this, the Prime Minister stated that they want to continue to improve the working relationship to have everybody on board so that we can make this Ministry fundamental and cut the food bill.
Dr Terrance Drew noted that with the advent of the Ministry of Agriculture, the government could create many more jobs. He reasoned that that is money in people’s pockets. Indeed. That’s improved lives for our people, making a sustainable island state where we can become almost self-sufficient.
